Last updated 2026-09-14. Apptakes is a product of Practical Business AI (PBAI), Monroe, Louisiana, USA.
The short version. A developer installs Apptakes in their own web app to learn from beta testers. When a tester agrees, Apptakes records what they do in that app and any notes they choose to leave, and shows the results to that developer only. PBAI stores this data on the developer's behalf and does not sell it, share it with other developers, or use it to train anything.
Who is who
- Developer: the person or company that created an Apptakes account and put the widget in their app. They decide which pages carry it and who tests. They are the controller of their testers' data.
- Tester: someone using the developer's app while the widget is present. Nothing is recorded until they accept the consent dialog.
- PBAI: runs the Apptakes service and processes data on the developer's instructions.
What is recorded, after consent
- The tester's name and email as they typed them into the consent dialog.
- Clicks, scrolling, page changes, and how long the tester was active. Keyboard activity is counted, but the contents of what they type are never recorded; input fields are masked in the replay.
- JavaScript errors and failed network requests raised by the developer's app.
- A replay of the page as the tester saw it (page structure and visible text, inputs masked). Visible page content can therefore appear in the replay; developers are told to use test data.
- Notes the tester chooses to leave: typed text, or a voice recording plus its transcript.
- On desktop browsers only, and only if the tester clicks "Record", a video of the current browser tab. If the tester chooses a different window or the whole screen in the browser's picker, that is what gets recorded. The widget asks for the current tab only.
- Browser type and window size.
Nothing is recorded on pages that do not carry the widget, and nothing is recorded before consent.
What happens to it
- An AI model (Google Gemini, via its API) writes a short narrative of each session and transcribes voice notes. Session data is sent to that API for that purpose only.
- The developer sees sessions, notes, errors, replays, and narratives in their Apptakes account, and may receive them by email.
- PBAI staff may look at data to operate or debug the service.
Where it lives and for how long
- Database and files: Supabase (AWS us-east-1, United States). Application hosting: Netlify. Email: Resend.
- Replay and screen-video files are deleted 30 days after the session. Notes, narratives, scores, and event summaries stay until the developer deletes the app or the session.
- When a developer deletes an app in Setup, every session, note, event, replay, and recording for it is deleted.
Your choices
- Testers: decline the consent dialog and nothing is recorded. To have a past session removed, contact the developer of the app you tested, or email the address below with the app's name and the email you gave.
- Developers: export your data as JSON from Sessions at any time; delete any app in Setup; ask us to delete your account at the address below.
